Public Transport in Bratislava during public holidays and school vacations

When you visit Bratislava on public holidays, you may find that there are some changes in timetables and lower frequency of public transport connections. The same goes for school holidays or Sundays.

Public Holidays in Slovakia

Slovak Independence Day (Day of the Establishment of the Slovak Republic in 1993, when Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia)

Feast of the Three Kings
Good Friday
Moveable  - the date of this holiday changes each year. Generally, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first spring full moon, so the date of Good Friday is then determined according to this rule.
Easter Monday
Moveable as well, for the exact date the same rule is applied.

Labour Day

The Day of Victory Over Fascism
5th July
The Feast of St. Cyril and St. Methodius

Anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP)

Day of the Constitution of the Slovak Republic

Day of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows (The Patron Saint of Slovakia)

All Saints' Day - cemeteries are visited on or around this day.

Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day - commemorating the student demonstration against Nazi occupation, fight against totalitarianism

Christmas Eve

Christmas Day (literally, First Christmas Holiday)

During these days, buses, trams, and trolley-buses run according to a Sunday schedule. Some bus lines have additional buses during the school year to handle the added numbers of students going to and from school. Therefore, during the school vacations, the schedules are adjusted.
